Online Therapy in Round Lake
Anxiety can be loud, convincing, and exhausting. It can show up as nonstop “what if” thoughts, a tight chest that does not relax, irritability you cannot explain, or a sudden wave of panic that makes you feel unsafe in your own body. If you have been trying to push through and it is not working, Online Therapy in Round Lake gives you a way to get support without adding a commute, a waiting room, or another barrier to care.
Montesano Psychological Center is a women-owned, clinician-led virtual practice serving communities across Illinois, including Round Lake. We are intentionally a small team with small caseloads, because therapy works best when your therapist has the time, attention, and emotional bandwidth to truly know you. If you are looking for Online Therapy in Round Lake help that feels human, you are in the right place.
We also offer a free 10-minute phone consultation so you can ask questions, share what has been going on, and get a thoughtful match. When you call (224) 603-2058, a licensed clinician answers, not a receptionist and not an automated system.
Why Anxiety Feels So Overwhelming
Anxiety is often your brain’s attempt to protect you. The problem is that anxiety can become overprotective. It may treat everyday situations like emergencies, even when you logically know you are safe. Your body can get pulled into a stress response, which can include a racing heart, shallow breathing, stomach upset, dizziness, sweating, or muscle tension.
For many people, anxiety also changes behavior. You may start avoiding certain places, conversations, tasks, or social situations. Avoidance can bring short-term relief, but it often trains the brain to see the feared situation as even more dangerous. Over time, your world can shrink.
Online Therapy in Round Lake focuses on understanding your specific anxiety pattern, what triggers it, what keeps it going, and what helps you feel grounded again.
Common Anxiety Symptoms We Hear About in Online Therapy in Round Lake
Anxiety is not one-size-fits-all. Some people feel it mostly in their thoughts, others feel it mostly in their body, and many feel both. In Online Therapy in Round Lake, we often explore symptoms like:
- Persistent worry that feels hard to turn off
- Racing thoughts, overthinking, or constant reassurance-seeking
- Irritability, feeling “on edge,” or being easily startled
- Trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up anxious
- Difficulty concentrating, mind going blank, or feeling scattered
- Muscle tension, headaches, jaw clenching, or fatigue
- Gastrointestinal upset, nausea, or appetite changes
- Panic symptoms like shortness of breath, chest tightness, tingling, or dizziness
- Avoiding social situations, driving, stores, school, work tasks, or health-related triggers
If any of this fits, it does not mean you are weak. It means your nervous system has learned a pattern, and patterns can change with the right support and practice.
Types of Anxiety We Can Address
People use the word “anxiety” to describe a lot of different experiences. Your therapist will help clarify what you are dealing with, because good treatment starts with a clear understanding. Online Therapy in Round Lake support commonly includes help with:
Generalized Anxiety
This often looks like frequent worry across multiple areas of life, work, family, health, finances, relationships, or “everything.” You might feel keyed up most days and struggle to relax. Online Therapy in Round Lake can help you identify worry loops, reduce mental checking, and build coping skills that feel realistic in everyday life.
Social Anxiety
Social anxiety is not simply being introverted. It is the fear of being judged, embarrassed, or rejected, often paired with intense self-criticism after interactions. In Online Therapy in Round Lake, we can work on gradual exposure, self-compassion, and practical skills for managing anxiety before, during, and after social situations.
Panic Attacks and Panic Disorder
Panic can feel like a medical emergency. Many people worry they are having a heart attack, fainting, or “going crazy.” Online Therapy in Round Lake treatment can help you understand the body’s alarm system, reduce fear of the sensations themselves, and practice techniques that interrupt the panic cycle. For trustworthy health information on panic and anxiety, you can also review NIMH information on anxiety disorders.
Health Anxiety
Health anxiety can involve persistent fear about illness, frequent body checking, repeated reassurance-seeking, or spiraling after reading symptoms online. Online Therapy in Round Lake can help you build tolerance for uncertainty and reduce compulsive checking behaviors in a compassionate, non-shaming way.
Performance, Test, and Work Anxiety
Anxiety can surge around presentations, exams, interviews, or high-pressure tasks. We can focus on both the physical stress response and the perfectionism or fear of failure that often sits underneath. Many people seek Online Therapy in Round Lake services for burnout-related anxiety, especially when work stress starts affecting sleep and relationships.
What Causes Anxiety?
There is rarely one single cause. Anxiety is usually influenced by a mix of biology, life experiences, stress, and learned coping strategies. Some common contributors include:
- Genetics and temperament, some people have more sensitive threat detection systems
- Chronic stress, including work overload, caregiving, financial strain, or ongoing conflict
- Past experiences, including trauma, loss, bullying, or unpredictable environments
- Medical factors, sleep disruption, pain, thyroid issues, hormonal changes, and some medications can contribute to anxiety symptoms
- Substance use, alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, and stimulants can affect anxiety in complex ways
- Learned patterns, avoidance, reassurance seeking, and perfectionism can unintentionally keep anxiety going
Online Therapy in Round Lake is a place to sort through what is driving your anxiety specifically, without judgment and without assumptions.
How Online Therapy in Round Lake Treatment Works at Montesano Psychological Center
Our care is personal by design. We are not a high-volume platform, and we do not use algorithms to match you. Instead, we listen first. Then we pair you with a clinician based on your concerns, preferences, schedule, and any language needs. If the fit is not right, we will help you switch therapists, no awkwardness and no guilt.
You can also get to know our overall approach on our Services page and see the range of concerns we treat on our Conditions page.
Evidence-Based Approaches We Use
Online Therapy in Round Lake is grounded in methods that have strong research support for anxiety. Your therapist may use one approach or combine several, depending on your needs:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), to identify anxiety-producing thoughts and practice new responses. You can read more about our approach on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), to reduce the struggle with anxious thoughts and reconnect you with what matters. See Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
- DBT skills, especially for distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and mindfulness. Explore Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
- Trauma-informed care, when anxiety is connected to past experiences
- Solution-focused strategies, when you need practical steps and immediate stabilization
All clinicians are supervised by Dr. Liara Montesano, Psy.D., which helps keep care consistent and high-quality across the practice.
