Online Therapy in Libertyville

Anxiety is a normal human alarm system, but when that alarm goes off too often, too loudly, or at the wrong times, it can shrink your world. If you are searching for Online Therapy in Libertyville, you may be dealing with relentless worry, a racing heart, dread before social plans, or sudden waves of panic that feel impossible to control. At Montesano Psychological Center, we meet you with respect and real attention. We are a small, women-owned virtual practice serving communities across Illinois, and we built MPC for people who want therapy to feel human, not automated.

Online Therapy in Libertyville with MPC is not a “one-size-fits-all” program. We start by listening, then we match you with a therapist based on your needs, preferences, schedule, and what helps you feel safe in a therapy relationship. If the fit is not right, we will help you switch, no judgment and no awkward explanations required.

What Anxiety Can Look Like, And When It Becomes Too Much

Anxiety can be loud and obvious, like a panic attack, or quiet and constant, like a low-level hum of tension that never turns off. Many people minimize it because they are still functioning, but functioning is not the same as feeling okay. Online Therapy in Libertyville help often starts with naming what is happening and noticing patterns.

Common emotional and mental symptoms

  • Persistent worry that is hard to stop, even when you know it is unlikely
  • Racing thoughts, overthinking, or replaying conversations
  • Fear of judgment, embarrassment, or “getting it wrong”
  • Irritability, impatience, or feeling keyed up
  • Trouble concentrating, especially when stress is high

Common physical symptoms

  • Chest tightness, shortness of breath, or a pounding heart
  • Stomach upset, nausea, or changes in appetite
  • Muscle tension, headaches, jaw clenching
  • Restlessness, fatigue, or feeling “wired but tired”
  • Sleep issues, including trouble falling asleep or waking with worry

If you are unsure whether your symptoms are anxiety-related, you are not expected to figure it out alone. Online Therapy in Libertyville can help you make sense of your experience and decide on next steps.

Understanding Anxiety: What Causes It?

Anxiety is rarely caused by one thing. It is usually a mix of biology, life experience, stress, and the way your nervous system has learned to respond to threat. Some people have a family history of anxiety. Others notice anxiety after a major life change, a medical event, a difficult relationship, grief, or a stretch of prolonged stress. Trauma can also shape the body’s alarm system, making it more sensitive over time.

It can help to know that anxiety is not a character flaw. It is a pattern, and patterns can change. In Online Therapy in Libertyville, we work on both insight and skills, so you can understand why anxiety shows up, and also what to do when it does.

For a clear overview of stress and coping resources, you can also review information from the CDC’s mental health resources.

Online Therapy in Libertyville Services For Different Types of Anxiety

“Anxiety” is an umbrella term. Treatment is most effective when it matches the specific way anxiety shows up in your life. Online Therapy in Libertyville at MPC can support many anxiety presentations, including the ones below.

Generalized anxiety, when worry feels constant

Generalized anxiety often sounds like, “What if something goes wrong?” even when things are going okay. You might feel responsible for preventing every possible problem, and the mental load can be exhausting. In Online Therapy in Libertyville, we help you notice the worry cycle, reduce mental checking and reassurance seeking, and build more flexible thinking without forcing you to “just calm down.”

Social anxiety, when being seen feels risky

Social anxiety is not simply being shy. It can involve intense fear of judgment, physical symptoms before or during interactions, and strong urges to avoid. Online Therapy in Libertyville can help you work through the fear beneath the fear, practice realistic social experiments at your pace, and rebuild confidence in a way that feels respectful, not pushy.

Panic attacks and panic disorder

Panic can feel terrifying, especially when symptoms mimic a medical emergency. Many people start to fear the next panic attack, which can lead to avoidance and a smaller life. In Online Therapy in Libertyville, we focus on understanding the body’s panic response, reducing fear of sensations, and practicing skills that interrupt the escalation. We also coordinate with medical care when appropriate, because your safety matters.

Health anxiety and uncertainty intolerance

If you find yourself scanning your body for symptoms, googling worst-case scenarios, or seeking reassurance repeatedly, you are not alone. Online Therapy in Libertyville can help you step out of the reassurance loop, learn to tolerate uncertainty, and respond to worry in a steadier way.

Performance anxiety, test anxiety, and work stress

Anxiety can spike around presentations, exams, interviews, or high-stakes work expectations. Online Therapy in Libertyville can support you with practical strategies for preparation, self-talk, nervous system regulation, and recovery from perfectionism-driven burnout. If work stress is a major factor, you may also find our Burnout Therapy page helpful.

Online Therapy in Libertyville Treatment That Is Evidence-Based and Personalized

At MPC, our clinicians use evidence-based approaches, and every therapist is clinically supervised by Dr. Liara Montesano for consistency and quality. That matters because anxiety can be persistent, and you deserve care that is both compassionate and clinically sound. Online Therapy in Libertyville is delivered through secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth, with a focus on real connection, not a rushed checklist.

CBT, practical tools for anxious thoughts and behaviors

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you notice patterns that keep anxiety going, like catastrophic thinking, avoidance, and safety behaviors. In Online Therapy in Libertyville, CBT can include learning to test anxious predictions, shift unhelpful thinking habits, and build coping strategies you can actually use in daily life. You can read more about our approach on the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) page.

ACT, changing your relationship with anxiety

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is especially helpful when you have tried to fight anxiety for years and feel worn out. ACT is not about liking anxiety. It is about learning how to make room for discomfort without letting it make your decisions. Online Therapy in Libertyville with ACT often includes values-based work, mindfulness skills, and learning to unhook from anxious thoughts. Learn more on our Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) page.

DBT skills, when anxiety comes with intense emotions

When anxiety spikes fast, it can help to have concrete skills for distress tolerance and emotion regulation. In Online Therapy in Libertyville, DBT-informed strategies can support grounding, coping ahead, and reducing the urge to escape the moment in ways that create bigger problems later. If you want to explore this approach, visit our Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) page.

Why Montesano Psychological Center Feels Different

We hear it often, people are tired of feeling processed. MPC was intentionally designed to be the opposite of a big, impersonal model. Online Therapy in Libertyville should feel like care, not customer service.

A licensed clinician answers the phone

Reaching out can be hard, especially when anxiety is already high. When you call MPC, you talk to a licensed clinician, not a receptionist and not a bot. If you are seeking Online Therapy in Libertyville support, we want your first contact to feel grounding, informed, and respectful.

Small team, small caseloads, big care

Our therapists keep caseloads intentionally small. That means more attention to your goals, your progress, and what is changing in your life week to week. Online Therapy in Libertyville with a small team can also mean fewer handoffs and a more consistent relationship.

Match matters, and switching is allowed

The relationship is part of the treatment. If you do not feel comfortable, it is harder to be honest about the thoughts you are ashamed of or the fears you have never said out loud. Online Therapy in Libertyville includes thoughtful matching, and if it is not the right fit, we will help you find a better match without judgment.
